Huskies Look Strong in Opener
The Huskies won their opener 18-14 over the Hoosiers, behind 8 points from Jon Newton. The Hoosiers were led by 11 points from Jamel Lawhorn. Austin Ormord chipped in 3 in the loss, while Shaun Rucker added 4 points in the win. The Scarlet Knights scored 22 points to defeat the Wildcats by 13. Ryan Pickering led the way for the Knights with twelve, with Tim Lovallo adding 6. Anthony Lyons and Dante Paolucci each scored four for the Wildcats. Last year’s champions the Running Rebels continued their win streak from last year defeating the Hoyas 20-15. The Hoyas were led by Justin Miller (6) and Diego Rosete (4), while the Rebels leader was Terence Andrews with eight followed by Trevon Smith’s six points. The Friars jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and never looked back in the 26-10 win over the Cowboys. Josh Moncrieffe had 11 for the Friars and Bryce Sebestian added six and compiled most of the Friar assists. The Cowboys Chris Molster scored six and Robert Goetze added two. The Eagles managed to hold off a late surge by the Tigers in an 18-14 win. The Eagles Bobby Hawkins (10) and Karl Jackson (6) were the leaders. Toma Brown led the Tigers with 10 with both Dante Talamelli and Zamon Alford each chipping in two. The Tar Heels had the most impressive win of the day defeating the Yellow Jackets 20-4. The Yellow Jackets received their points from Matt Duncanson while the following Tar Heels made it into the scorebook; Shane Clark (6) Nate Smalls (8), Sal Russo (3), Jordan Swint (2), and DJ Pantry (1). The Blue Devils fought off a pesky Green Machine team with a 16-9 win. The Blue Devils were led by Sean Morrissey with eight followed by Joe Steinman with four.
